Becoming a traveler

1. How do I become a NursesRx traveler?

We will send you a free information packet containing an application and a specialty-specific skills checklist. You also can apply online. The application helps us chart your travel nursing career path and the skills checklist lets us evaluate your qualifications to match you with travel nurse jobs that call for your particular skills and experience.

2. What are the minimum requirements to become a NursesRx travel nurse?

To become a NursesRx travel nurse, it is preferred that you have at least 18 months to 2 years experience in an acute care facility and be a graduate of an accredited professional program in the United States or Canada. Some specialties or facilities may require more experience. You recruiter can provide further information.

3. Am I under obligation after sending in the application?

Absolutely not. We only use your application to qualify you for travel so that we're ready to match you with travel nursing assignments as soon as you decide you're ready to go. Once you complete the application process, there will always be exciting travel nurse jobs waiting for you.

4. When do I start preparing to take a travel nursing assignment?

Normally, we start recruiting for travel nurse jobs two to three months prior to your desired start date, so it's best to begin as early as possible. Even if you're only curious about available travel nursing assignments, you should apply now so you won't miss out on an assignment that might be ideal for you. Remember, there's no obligation.

5. Is there a fee for NursesRx placement services?

No, never.

Pay and benefits

6. What types of benefits and bonuses will I receive?

NursesRx provides travel nurses with one of the industry’s most competitive travel nursing benefits packages, including excellent pay rates, sign-on and completion bonuses on select travel nurse jobs, free, private housing, day-one health insurance, 401(k) retirement plan with partial company match, generous travel reimbursements and much more. For specific information, visit the pay and benefits page or call us at (800) 733-9354.

7. What are the pay rates?

NursesRx compensation is highly competitive, with base pay rates of up to $40 per hour for registered nurses. Many facilities also offer sign-on or completion bonuses. Most NursesRx travel nurse jobs offer shift differentials for evening and night shifts. Also, unlike some companies, NursesRx gives you the straight story: the pay rates we quote are for regular pay--rather than bundling in the additional money RNs make in shift differentials, overtime and other bonuses.

8. When and how will I be paid?

NursesRx travel nurses can choose to have their paycheck directly deposited into their accounts or receive their paychecks every two weeks via overnight mail. In some instances, however, the assignment facility will pay you directly according to its normal payroll schedule.

Travel nursing assignments

9. How long are assignments?

Most NursesRx travel nursing assignments are 13 weeks; however, we sometimes can customize an assignment’s length to meet your needs.

10. What types of travel nurse jobs are available?

NursesRx offers a whole spectrum of travel nursing assignments available nationwide! You specify the type of travel nurse jobs you're looking for, and we'll find them. From prestigious teaching facilities to small community hospitals, from big cities to rural settings, positions are available in almost all specialties and shifts. NursesRx has thousands of open positions across the United States and Canada.

11. How do I choose a travel nursing assignment?

You're in complete control of the process. After NursesRx has reviewed your application and skills checklist, your recruiter will talk to you about what you want from your travel nursing career. Then your recruiter will present you with available travel nurse jobs based on your position and shift preferences, along with a complete description of the facility, unit, area, salary and available bonuses at each job. Together, you choose the assignment that's right for you.

12. Will you have travel nurse jobs anywhere I want to go?

Almost always. However, if we don't have your specific position in the location of your choice, we'll contact facilities in that area to present your credentials and search for an available assignment.

13. What happens after I choose a travel nursing assignment?

NursesRx will send a copy of your paperwork with your selected start date, unit and shift to the facility for review. We’ll also work with you to determine a good time for the facility to call you for a telephone interview. We want you to be comfortable with your assignment from the very beginning, so prior to the interview it's a good idea to create a list of any questions you might have about the unit in which you'll be working.

14. How long does it take to be approved and choose a travel nursing assignment?

This depends on you and how quickly you want to move. You could begin your first assignment within one week, or four to six weeks. Some travel nurses schedule their travel nurse jobs four or five months in advance.

15. Do I need to sign a one-year contract?

No. Your contractual commitment is only for one travel nursing assignment at a time. When your assignment ends, you have four options: You can extend your assignment; travel to another exciting assignment; apply for a permanent position at the facility; or return home, perhaps to travel again at a later date.

16. When have I made a commitment?

Your commitment begins only if and when you decide to accept a travel nursing assignment. Following your telephone interview with the facility, you and the facility management will decide if the assignment is right for you. If you decide to take it, congratulations! However, if you decide to pass, remember that there is absolutely no pressure or obligation for you to accept the assignment.

17. How will NursesRx prepare me for travel nursing assignments?

Once you have decided an assignment is right for you, your recruiter will confirm your start date, shift, unit and salary. Shortly thereafter, you will receive a confirmation package in the mail with information pertaining to your assignment. We will then prepare you for your arrival. All you need to do is pack your bags!

18. How do I learn more about state licensing requirements?

Your recruiter will advise you on each state’s specific requirements and the length of time necessary to obtain a license in a state where you have chosen to take a travel nursing assignment. Some states require more lengthy licensing procedures than others, so plan ahead. For more information, visit our state licensing section.

19. How do I travel to travel nurse jobs?

You have several options: If you want your vehicle so that you can explore your new surroundings and go sightseeing on your days off, you can drive it to your travel nursing assignment, or you can have it transported there. If, however, you accept an assignment in a major city that has ample public transportation, but scarce, expensive parking, you can opt to leave your car behind and travel there by some other means. Regardless of how you choose to get to your assignment, we'll provide you with a generous travel reimbursement. Whichever way you choose to get there, you’re always in the driver’s seat.

20. Can I travel with a friend?

We encourage it! Traveling with another healthcare professional, spouse, or close friend lets you share the experiences of a lifetime.

Housing

21. What about housing?

For any company-paid travel nursing assignment, NursesRx will provide you with free, private, one-bedroom or studio accommodations in a safe, well-appointed neighborhood, close to your workplace. Your apartment will be in move-in condition complete with furniture and utilities all prearranged for you. Your rent is paid for as part of the assignment, so there's no monthly rental expense to worry about! You can even enjoy available community amenities such as health clubs, tennis courts, swimming pools and hot tubs. Of course, if you'd prefer, you can coordinate your own housing using our generous housing allowance.

22. Is the housing really free?

Yes. When you accept a travel nursing assignment with NursesRx, we will provide you with free, private, one-bedroom housing in a well-appointed neighborhood. In some locations, you might be provided with a studio apartment. If you travel with your family, we can provide you with private, two-bedroom accommodations for a modest fee.
